Apparel

If you miscalculate your clothing packing it can be inconvenient. Anna Maria Island is warm during much of the year, but it can have cooler evenings if you visit in the winter.

  • A few bathing suits, a second for back-to-back beach trips.
  • Tank tops and shorts – you’ll want to bring at least a few pairs during the spring or summer.
  • Semi-formal wear if you wind up at an unexpected evening show or a nice dinner by the water.
  • Beach footwear like flip flops or sandals.
  • Running shoes for walking along trails or hiking
  • Sunglasses are a must – and you might consider a sunhat as well.
  • A light jacket for a possible cool evening if you visit during the winter.

Beach and Swimming Equipment

When it comes down to it, the majority of your time here may be spent on or near the beach. You’ll get a lot more out of the various potential beach activities if you come equipped with the right gear. Take to Coquina Beach, Manatee Public Beach, Bean Point, or Bayfront Park with the right tools in hand.

  • A cooler with drinks and snacks.
  • Fins and snorkel gear if you are into snorkeling.
  • Beach chairs. They are not always readily accessible on the beaches.
  • Blankets and beach towels.
  • A beach bag to carry all your gear.
  • Water bottles.
  • Camera or GoPro.

Entertainment

Don’t forget entertainment – you’ll need some things to keep yourself or your family entertained while traveling, below are a few things to consider bringing for that purpose:

  • Electronic devices such as laptops or tablets.
  • Your favorite books.
  • Portable speakers to play music on the beach.
  • Chargers for your devices.

Safety

Safety is a top priority while visiting the beaches of Anna Maria Island. Lifeguards are stationed at Coquina Beach and Manatee Public Beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day from 9:00 am. to 5:00 pm, but not on the other beaches.

Consider a few safety items to pack along for the trip.

  • Lifejackets and floatation devices for the kids. It’s one of those things that can easily get lost in the shuffle.
  • Hand sanitizer.
  • First aid kit.
  • Additional safety gear if you plan on biking or skating.

Travel-Related Necessities

The below items require some forethought, but can help to round out your vacation to Anna Maria Island.

  • A list of must-see attractions. Do some research online and come up with your own list. You may want to make sure you hit all the spots that you intended to see – it can be easy to get off track once you arrive.
  • A beach bag – it’s easy to forget this but you aren’t going to be bringing your suitcase to the shores, so make sure to bring one of these.
  • Plastic bags for wet clothing – you’ll want to keep your wet and dry clothes separate so have some bags for your swimwear.
  • Waterproof cases – for your phones or cameras if you are bringing them near the water.
  • Spices and condiments for cooking – although many beach rentals have kitchen equipment, you may want to bring your favorite spices and condiments.
  • Toiletries – make a thorough check in your bathroom so you don’t have to make a list minute detour.
