4th of July on Anna Maria Island

Celebrating the 4th of July on Anna Maria Island is always a treat, and 2019 will be no exception. This beautiful beach destination might only be seven miles in length and a few hundred yards in width, but it is packed with things to do.

What are the main attractions that you should take your family to see? Let’s take a look at the most exciting events and attractions that AMI will be offering on Independence Day near our AMI vacation rentals.

Flag over the gulf of mexico

The 4th of July Parade

What would the 4th be without a fantastic parade to kick off the festivities? Every year, the Anna Maria Island Privateers host a parade that runs the entire length of the island.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. and runs for a full two hours until noon. It commences at Coquina Beach and winds its way northward along Gulf Drive, stopping at Anna Maria’s City Pier.

Following the parade, Beach Café hosts a Scholarship Reception for students and an after-party to extend the celebrations.

Everyone is invited to attend the parade, so be sure to don your finest reds, whites, and blues for the occasion!

Independence Day Buffet and Fireworks on the Manatee River

Stop into Bradenton’s PIER 22 Restaurant and salute the flag between 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. While you’re there, you can enjoy a massive and delicious buffet as well as a pig roast. The restaurant is located right on the water, so you will get a fantastic view of the fireworks.

While children are welcome, there will be some drinking. Want to really get into the spirit of the 4th? For those who are 21 and over, you can purchase an open-bar wristband.

Fireworks at The Sandbar Restaurant

Want to sink your toes into some warm, white sand as you watch the fireworks display? Then make sure you get your spot at The Sandbar Restaurant. The Sandbar has hosted the fireworks display for well over three decades, and this year is bound to be just as memorable.

Guests are seated on the outdoor wedding pavilion starting at sundown. If you’re up for it, you can acquire a special party package available. The package gives you the best-in-house VIP seating for the fireworks.

Join the Annual Freedom Fest and Hot Diggity Dog Parade

Venture southward to Longboat Key and partake in the Annual Freedom Fest and Hot Diggity Dog Parade. Sounds like a blast, right? Well, it is.

Get there before the parade starts at 8:30 a.m. for the best view, and you can watch all sorts of fire trucks, police cruisers, bicycles, and even pets stroll down Bay Isles Road in their reds, whites, and blues.

After the parade ends, you can head on over to Bicentennial Park for some games, activities, and food. The event is open and welcoming to all ages.

Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival

Partake in the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival

A short distance to the southeast of AMI, you will find the gorgeous city of Sarasota, which will be busy to the brim with Independence Day events.

One of the most exciting things that will be happening is the annual Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival. This week-long event ends on the 4th with a beautiful view of the fireworks on 5 Island Park Drive.

During the week, you and your kids can enjoy charity rides, comedy night, an auto show, and, of course, the powerboat races.

Remember, you can take in the fireworks for free on Anna Maria Island. Just claim your spot along AMI’s beautiful, sandy beach and watch the fireworks pop and sizzle over mainland Sarasota Bay. Of course, since it is a major holiday, be prepared for the crowds!
