Spring Events Happening Soon on Anna Maria Island

Spring is a magical time on Anna Maria Island. Warm days lead to spectacular sunsets and cool nights. It’s a perfect time for walking around and exploring the many things to do in the area. You’ll find everything from spring holiday festivals, parades, art exhibits, food fairs – and of course beautiful white sand beaches are never far!

Anna Maria Island prides itself on being a tight-knit community. You won’t find endless high-rise condos or retail chains selling tacky souvenirs. Local artisans, shopkeepers, chefs, and restaurant owners often spearhead our major events. If you’re looking for a nice getaway with a bit of Florida flair, here are some local outings coming spring 2020 that are sure to please.

Suncoast Quilt Expo

Suncoast Quilt Expo

In the prelude to spring, check out the Suncoast Quilt Expo on February 14-15 from 9 am-5 pm in the nearby town of Bradenton. This bi-annual event is hosted by the Manatee Patchworkers, a local guild that specializes in quilts. Here you’ll find a silent auction, raffle, crafting contests, and a variety of other vendors and artists. You’ll be able to take home a beautiful textile which you can continue to use in your home for years to come! You can also see the important community service they do, creating furnishings for the less fortunate and local Humane Societies.

Spring Fest

If arts and local initiatives pique your interest, look no further than Spring Fest 2020. This is an Anna Maria Island staple hosted yearly by the Island Art League. It’s happening right here on the island in Holmes Beach on the weekend of March 7 and 8. The League sponsors this outdoor art show to bring exhibits and sales of fine arts and crafts to their community. From paintings to glassware to sculptures, all works on display and for sale are approved by a panel of judges. Live music and nearby beaches help provide a wonderful ambiance for the show. Raffles and sales from the show help the Art League support, local artists, by funding their scholarships.

Food truck from beach and food truck festival

Beach n Food Truck Festival

On Saturday, April 4, head down to Coquina Beach at the south tip of the island for a whole fair of food and entertainment. From 10 am-8 pm, dozens of food trucks will be lining up to serve meals from all over the world. Whether you want breakfast, dinner, or dessert, they have you covered. Licensed vendors serve cool cocktails, wine, and beer, as well as water and soft drinks to keep you energized for the day.

While the food is obviously the main attraction, it’s far from the only thing to keep you at the beach. Live music from local acts begins in the morning and goes all day. There’s even a car show with over a hundred different classic cars going until 3 pm. Also, catch the many vendors selling tropical and beach themed crafts and jewelry. Finally, there’s a pop-up playground for kids – you’ll even find some cotton candy to complete the carnival experience!

Easter Events

For a double whammy of holiday spirit, the annual Easter Egg Hunt and the Egg Roll and Bonnet Contest are without a doubt worth checking out. These events are hosted on the Saturday of Easter weekend by the Sandbar. It’s a great restaurant with beachside outdoor dining that is a pillar of the local community.

Starting at 8:30 am on 100 Spring Avenue, the hosts will serve donuts, pastries, fruit, coffee, juice, and water. At 9 am the eggs roll out and the hunt begins! Shortly after, you can catch the Bonnet Contest where you can literally throw your hat in the ring for a chance to win prizes. Egg decorating, face painting, and other activities are there too. All this culminates in a parade led by the Easter bunny later in the afternoon! The whole day is free and makes for a wonderful family outing.
